Of course you want to learn the names of
the piano keys.
The notes on the piano staff as they relate to the
piano keys is certainly another step. But just as was mentioned
previously,
you don't need to learn it all at once. For example, it's quite
possible to learn bow to play
chords on the piano, having fun with playing by
ear, and taking this to many, many levels without even knowing a
note on the piano staff. There are so many musicians who play
terrificly, and don't read a note of music, believe it or not.
Again, this doesn't mean it's not advisable to take a
well-rounded approach to learning the piano. The opposite is true. The
main point here is that taking things a step at a time certainly
includes enjoying those steps, rather than viewing your
piano learning journey as a tedious process that takes months
before you can start genuinely having fun. Any myths that this is true
which you may have subscribed to, due to what other people say, can
certainly be disposed of.
Rocket Piano is
a worthwhile consideration for a fun way to go about this. You'll be
able to go a long way with this popular program, but you'll proceed at
your own pace.
