The most basic blues chords simply involve taking three
Major chords, and adding one note to each of them.
For example, if you start with a C Major
chord, which is:
C E G
simply add a Bb, resulting in C E
G Bb, which is know as the C Seventh chord (abbreviated C7 in music
notation). If we do this with two more major triads, the F Major chord
and G Major chord, we now have the tree basic blues chords in the key
of C major:
C E G Bb (C7)
F A C Eb
(F7)
G B D F (G7)
Once you have a handle on playing these
basic blues chords, you can take things a step further. Our
recommendation to do this is Jazz Piano
For Beginners. A nice thing about this very inexpensive ebook
is that it will also help you to get moving with jazz piano
fundamentals and application as well. Grab yourself a copy and
join the ranks of other blues pianists who, once involved, never turn
back!
